The objective of the collaboration between Domus Academy and Ideal Standard in the context of the Master in Design 2002 is connected to the opportunity offered to the students to develop a design project in a quite unusual way.
The basic theme is the research and development of new concepts, with the most global vision as possible, connected to the world of the bathroom. Together with this attitude – which can be defined in a certain way traditional – the students are asked to pay particular attention to the promotion of new concepts / projects / products. Working directly on the peculiarities of a leading company such as Ideal Standard – in particular thanks to a budget destined to research and development, the capillarity of the distribution network, show rooms, trade fairs, etc. – this Master project intends to present new concepts for a global bathroom, through an “intelligent” promotion.
The users of the themes connected to the world of the bathroom are numerous and very different one from the other, consequently communication should not just be of a technical kind – addressed to the operators of the sector – but it should also and especially “talk” to the final consumer.
The technical or aesthetic innovation is communicated with the aid of new supports promoting it better; they become essential part of it revealing the intrinsic message. In this way the pathway for a “global” project is achieved.

Enhancing the experience of using the public toilet by guiding the users to interact and communicate with one another. Smells, sounds, movements and visuals help create this so called enhanced experience. The project is comprised of six scenarios that deal with human behaviours and emotions. Comfort has always been related to the space that surrounds us. The Embedded Bathroom concept integrates all the components that we need into the wall, leaving space for further comfort. Not only does the project solve the issue of limited space but it also introduces different ways of distributing the space by changing the way we normally use the bathroom. Elements is a line of objects that guide water flow through the bathroom, revitalizing water through their forms as well as preparing it for purification before entering the sewage system. Elements focuses on water as a liquid that is vital to all living things. Duo is a versatile configuration of modular micro space for the bathroom and kitchen facilities. This system condenses the essential functions of a small appartment to create freedom of space. This is done by re-organising and consolidating the sanitary and plumbing services. Though conceived for small spaces, it is adaptable to different context such as offices, lofts, or hostels. The intention of Ideal, an evolution of the bathroom, was to create an environment and objects that could be truly adaptable with the use of “intelligent” technology. This customization increases the personal comfort, as it fits the space to the individual (his dimensions, his mood, his needs or his physical limitations). Ideal accommodates diverse users as they enter the bathroom with sensors detecting their individual profile: sinks and toilets move up and down, while climate and lighting are adjusted to personal preferences. unebadoit@hotmail.com
