  Lido: The Venetian Sea
  con Comune di Venezia

Our project has the aim to draft innovative guidance notes for the Shoreline Sectional Plan of Isola Lido in Venice. Lido, with is costal strip, separates the Lagoon of Venice from the Adriatic sea; it has an urban waterfront with different coexisting resources: from wonderful environmental areas to international events as the Venice Film Festival is.
We approached them as sensitive resources trying to provide a new reading of the Lido’s landscape, in order to link its components and to activate synergies.
A complex system made of zones, stripes, tension areas, hubs and obviously bath establishments, a continuous interface to develop new city functions.

  Project leader: Guido Borelli

The obsolete industrial areas represent a big opportunity for the development of the city. This is the case of Savona/Tortona area, which maintains central features and functions, not only in geographical terms but also in terms of environments and context values (Navigli, Darsena, Porta Genova’s Train Station). This area has a very strong identity because it was a worker’s suburb, still not long time ago, full of manufacture activities.

  Shaping the dialogue:
  urban governances
  and integration politics
  in Gorizia and Nova Gorica
  with Ordine degli Architetti
  di Gorizia

  Project leader: Fabia Cabrini

In 1947 Gorizia has been separated from its territory. A new town was born in a couple of years in front of Gorizia, in Slovenian-Yugoslavian territory: Nova Gorica. Nova Gorica and Gorizia are today marginal cities. With the incoming of Slovenia in the EU in 2004 they can become a coherent, stronger urban centre. In this transitional phase some public actors invite communities to discuss and to share a common culture of urban planning.
The project helps with an external analysis of present public policies and future scenarios in planning of border areas, using qualitative methodologies called key narratives.

  Il ritardo della Croazia -
  case study per Bol

  Project leader: Matteo Ghidoni

Croatia is late. Territorial changes that had taken place in the West European countries on its territory are happening more slowly than in other East European Countries, due to the specific political and interconnected economical position of the last thirteen years. If we have the ambition to explore this delay opening a positive dialog of urbanism, first step is to understand the way in which Croatian urbanism is functioning today.
In a country without any vision of economical development, tourism is the only branch that is giving profit without any reasonable input, justifying different types of devastation.

Tourism has played an important role in Indonesian economy. However, major parts of Bali and West Lombok have suffered from irresponsible westernization. This fact leads to societal instability and hence the success of tourism depends heavily on it. The recent inquiry to build the future international airport in Central Lombok may present challenges in redirecting urban transformation and management in a more organized way. It may well be a stepping-stone towards bringing back limping tourism (due to recent world war on terrorism) in a balanced state. That is, projecting intercultural mix of society with respect to local traditions and values.
