The space of relations Real-Virtual: Space Evolution Instructors: Ampelio Bucci e Ferruccio Laviani Assistant: Luca Buttafava Projects are concerned with the meeting place of SEAT and potential customers. The physical location - the concessionaire, the showroom - where customers go to find out about, see, touch, try out, and purchase a car, and the virtual location where they go to locate information, find things out, and maybe one day to buy. One or the other, or both together. While all sectors of the market - from clothing to homes, from food to entertainment - are seeing an ongoing process of renewal of the point of sale, the automobile industry has fallen behind. In the '90's all efforts were concentrated on product renewal, dealing with the challenge of globalisation and escaping the whirlpool of standardised form into which the product was being drawn. In recent months, however, many automobile manufacturers have been expressing a renewed interest in showrooms. But renewing the point of sale does not mean only "better showing" and "more services"; the role of the "store" is continually changing to become an active interface with the new post-consumer individual, becoming a place for information, real interaction, stimulation, fun, and social encounters, above and beyond being a place of sale. The shopping experience is now becoming the most important factor in making a decision on a new purchase. The projects carried out with SEAT are concerned not so much with showroom architecture as with visual tools for relating to and communicating with potential customers. |
