Light E-motion
Instructor: Silvio De Ponte Conti
Assistant:: Francisco Gomez Paz

Content, that is, light, can often become the primary object and be elevated to the true significant of the object. The roles of container and content can be reversed: this is the phenomenon of light which becomes body and soul, the true subject of design. Design of lighting products is often approached in an attempt to identify strictly formal aspects of performance which normally exclude design and the communicative qualities of light. Most historical and contemporary design has produced light fixtures which are prevalently formal, and are beautiful even when turned off. The aim of this design itinerary is to trace new horizons for lighting design in an attempt to come up with a world of objects in which container is synthesised with content, creating a wrapping like the skin of light. Light is treated as matter in space and in design, capable of creating environments and emotions, of interacting with people. We have attempted to cover specific fields of research as guidelines for students' projects, and to experiment with light: light fixtures which are prevalently technological innovation, light fixtures which are prevalently morphological innovation, light fixtures which are prevalently typological innovation, and, finally, light fixtures which are prevalently light innovation. The students' projects make use of the most recent innovative light sources.
