Domus Academy will take part in Istanbul Otherwise, an initiative organized by the Turkish communication agency Proje Reklam on the occasion of Istanbul European Capital of Culture 2010. Besides Domus Academy, the event also involves Bauhaus Universitat – Weimar and Yildiz Technical University – Istanbul.
“İstanbul Otherwise” is a pedagogical design exhibition project
prepared by PROJE A.Ş. and supported by the 2010 İstanbul European
Capital of Culture Agency.” The project is based on the idea of
“expressing İstanbul from a different perspective”.
“İstanbul Otherwise” rediscusses the seven objects, which have been
influenced/created by the major cultures that have established
themselves in the recollection of İstanbul, through the contemporary
designs that seven internationally working Turkish designers have
interpreted by setting out from the concept of “cultural
sustainability”. Enhancement of awareness for the cultural entities of
the past and the values these entities possess/represent, cultural
sustainability, the potential to create sincere and functional
differences in existential practices, the historical/social dimension
and traditional identity of the object were the decisive factors in the
approach of these designers.
The schools will host an exhibition showing seven typical traditional Turkish objects re-designed by seven renowed local designers.
AFTER MILAN AND WEIMAR, THE "ISTANBUL OTHWERWISE" EXHIBITION OF TRADITIONAL TURKISH OBJECTS INTERPRETED BY CONTEMPORARY DESIGNERS WILL BE SHOWN AT SANAT LIMANI, TOPHANE, ISTANBUL FROM JUNE 19TH TO JULY 18TH, 2010
